When the computer restarted the screen kept flickering, presumably because in the process, the display fonts (those which are used to enable script for filenames etc.) have been removed from the system. FontExplorer will move all fonts other than those installed with Mac OS X by default into a folder on your desktop (in a folder called "FontsRemovedFromSystem"), and the computer will restart." In the dialog that appears, check "Clean font caches and reboot afterwards" and press Clean.
